LABOR FORCE AND UNEMPLOYMENT STATISTICS MONTHLY REVIEW

North Dakota’s November 2021 not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.5 percent. One month prior the unemployment rate was 2.3 percent while one year ago the rate was 4.3 percent. There were an estimated 9,987 unemployed individuals in November, up 7.5 percent from the prior month but 41.4 percent lower than the same month one year ago. The national not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.9 percent, down from 4.3 percent in October and lower than the 6.4 percent rate reported one year prior.

The nation’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2 percent for November, down from October and lower than the 6.7 percent rate reported one year prior. North Dakota's seasonally adjusted rate was 3.2 percent, down from the prior month and 1.5 percentage points lower than the same period one year ago. Seasonal adjustment is a statistical technique that attempts to measure and remove the influences of predictable seasonal patterns to reveal how employment and unemployment change from month to month.

Thirty-one of 53 counties reported unemployment rates below the November 2021 state-level rate of 2.5 percent. Ransom County had the lowest unemployment rate at 1.6 percent. Rolette County reported the highest unemployment rate at 7.6 percent. Of the three metro areas, Fargo reported the lowest unemployment rate at 1.8 percent, while Bismarck and Grand Forks posted rates of 2.3 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively.
